Llama Life, issue #19
Hey friends ๐
Welcome back toย Llama Life, a roughly once-a-month newsletter where I share whatโs been happening with โLlamaโ, and the occasional productivity tip!
๐ฃ Firstly a small announcement!
Today is the LAST day to get the early adopter pricing for Llama Life!
After this, it will be going from US$9 (one-time purchase) to $20. Thatโs a 55% saving if you get in now. To get the early price, just log in, then go to your Account tab to purchase.
Thanks so much for all your support and feedback to grow this little product ๐.I have loved every minute working on it, and am excited for what is to come.
Whatโs new!
๐ Report view
You can now view metrics about the tasks on your list eg how long you worked, which task you spent the most time on, and overall โtime spentโ vs โtime you planned to spendโ.
Huge thanks to everyone who provided feedback on this, and a special thanks to David Delgado Ruiz, who pushed me to make it better.
You can access the Report via the new Menu or via keyboard shortcut โrโ. Check here for more keyboard shortcuts.
Which tasks are included in the report?
The report is based on whatever is on your current task list (completed or in-completed tasks, including hidden tasks)
The reporting period is based on when you click 'View Report'. This means YOU decide if you want to generate this daily, weekly etc. When youโre ready to start a new report, just clear all the tasks off your list and the report metrics are reset to 0
The thinking was that this design keeps the Report feature flexible. But let me know if itโs helpful.
๐จ Speaking of designโฆ
This is SO much harder than it looks.
After creating the logic for the Report feature, I needed to create a button to access it. The challenge (as several users mentioned) - do NOT clutter up the minimalist design.
Iโm happy with how it turned out, but here was the progression and what almost came to be ๐คฆ๐ปโโ๏ธ๐คฆ๐ปโโ๏ธ
Finally, ended up creating a brand new menu (which ended up housing a few other features as well).
Whatโs coming up?
๐ 1. The ability to group tasks in the Report
Got some great feedback from a user on reddit, requesting Report metrics be grouped into categories based on emoji! So stay tuned for that.
(also if you like reddit feel free to join Llamaโs subreddit ๐ r/llamalifeapp where we discuss and vote on new features)
๐ 2. The ability to add notes and subtasks
This was taking a little longer than expected, but have started work on it and hoping to release in the next week or so! The challenge again is not to clutter up the design.
Lastlyโฆ
Wanted to leave you all with some shots of how this all began. Some may know the story behind why itโs called Llama Life, but for those who donโtโฆ
Essentially I did a trip to Peru in 2018. I was lucky enough to visit a small village, and chat with some of the locals there. They had no electricity or running water, but they had a lot of llamas!
At the time, one thing that stuck me was how peaceful, calm and content they all were, and when it came to naming this app, I wanted to replicate that feeling. And so...โLlama Lifeโ was born.
Hereโs me during that trip! Itโs been almost 3yrs to the day since that was taken!
And the peaceful villageโฆ
Till next time, take care, and keep living the Llama Life ๐ฆโฐ.
